I thought it would be nice to have just an application on my desktop to post blogs from. Not that it is all that difficult to log in to Blogger (since I'm usually logged into Google anyways), but I just wanted something to open up via the desktop rather than the browser. In my little world I imagine I might blog more regularly if I had an application for it rather than surfing to a webpage to do it.
I first thought that it might be possible to use Prism to make some sort of desktop application from Blogger, but that didn't work out.
So I checked out the Ubuntu repositories for some blogging tools, and found a few. Unfortunately none of them work as well as I would like. The one that looks the most promising, BloGTK, is still in 1.1, and doesn't support the ATOM format that Blogger currently uses. The arrival of version 2.0 of BloGTK has been anticipated since mid 2008, so I don't know when it will arrive, but I'm looking forward to trying it out.
